World Food Day

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase "World Food Day"? Diet, healthy eating, nutrient-rich foods? It's only natural that when we hear the word "diet" our minds go to all of the above.

Some of the valuable benefits of proper nutrition, especially when combined with exercise, are that it gives people energy, proper functioning of the heart and all body organs, reduces the chances of diseases and various chronic conditions and helps maintain normal weight. All of the above are essential and contribute to human longevity.

World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October, the day the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was founded in 1945. The main principle celebrated is to promote food security around the world, especially in times of crisis.

Its annual celebration serves as an indicator of the importance of this organisation. It also helps to raise awareness of the crucial need for successful agricultural policies. Those, that is, that need to be implemented throughout the world to ensure that there is plenty of food for everyone.

According to the Agency, 300 million adults worldwide are obese, 100 million more than in 1995. There has also been a significant increase in meat consumption between 1979 and 1990.

On the other side of the coin, the evidence on the other side of the coin is shocking. It is estimated that around 40 million people die of hunger every year, 900 million people around the world experience hunger, and up to 2 billion people are nutritionally deficient.

The celebration is marked by events in more than 150 countries around the world, making it one of the most famous days in the United Nations calendar. These events promote global awareness of the need to ensure food security and nutritious food for all, as well as actions to relieve those suffering from hunger.

Our articles and activities aim to provide as clear and practical information as possible on nutrients, vitamins and health, always based on scientific research. We envision and believe in a world where people choose to live healthily because they know how.
